A jacuzzi ozonator or spa ozonator is a device that produces ozone gas using an ultraviolet lamp or a CD chip. This gas is used to clean the water of bacteria and micro-organisms. Ozone is the fastest-acting disinfectant and oxidizer for bath water. Ozone-treated water is sparkling clear, absolutely odorless and a pleasure to stay in. No irritation to eyes and mucous membranes, if you use the Jacuzzi ozonator properly, you can keep the concentration of chlorine in the water to a minimum.
Ozone gas
Ozone gas is a gas that surrounds the earth in large quantities (the ozone layer). This gas is formed when ultraviolet light comes into contact with oxygen. When ozone gas is injected into the water of your jacuzzi or spa hot tub, it acts as a strong disinfectant that kills most bacteria and any microorganisms currently in the water.
Ozonator in your spa
Our spa models (popularly called jacuzzi) are equipped with the latest type of ozonator, which uses very smart CD chip technology. This new technology produces 20% more Ozone and uses 37% less energy.
Spa ozonator: Clear and clean water
The gas produced by the ozonator is injected into the water via a water jet. Two of the three oxygen molecules provide the chemical reaction that cleans the water, and the third oxygen molecule is released into the air. This molecule provides a fresh, slightly sweet smell, the characteristics of ozonated water.
When and for how long to use ozonator
After the created ozone gas is injected into the water, it remains in the water for approximately 12 hours. It means that no more cleaning takes place after 12 hours! The Ozonator does not work permanently but during a filter cycle.
The duration of the filter cycles depends on the program you have set on the Balboa control panel. (See in the Balboa manual: Programming the Filter Cycle).
We recommend turning on the ozonator at least 2x – 1 hour per day (every 12 hours, for 1 hour) if you use your spa bubble bath daily. Also use other cleaning agents to keep the PH value and quality of the water optimal.
In addition, we recommend replacing the ozonators every approximately 2 years to ensure optimal operation.
